Health & Testing
We breed only from fully tested parents. Both dogs are examined for the conditions that occur in the Shiba Inu.
Hips (HD)
The hips are X-rayed by a specialised veterinarian. The Raad van Beheer (the Dutch Kennel Club) assesses the images and officially records the result. This result is valid for life.
Patella luxation (knees)
During the same visit the vet assesses the knees and gives the result on the spot.
Eyes (ECVO)
A clinical eye examination following the ECVO protocol. We repeat this test periodically, because the result is valid for one year and some eye conditions only appear later in life.
DNA
By DNA we determine coat colour, coat length (long coat) and GM1 (gangliosidosis).
That way we know exactly what we are combining in every pairing, and are never caught out by surprises.
