Nero

Nero, nicknamed Pero, was the first addition to our household. He showed us straight away what a Shiba is, but also how loving they can be.

Honestly, Nero has spoiled us. Despite his typical Shiba character he listens remarkably well, certainly when there is a reward or a piece of cheese in it for him.

He is a real people person and wants attention from everyone. He would happily be fussed over all day and asks for head scratches. He does have a preference for women, whom he loves to charm with his airplane ears.

Thanks to his enormous food drive, Nero is a pleasure to train. That allowed us to take part in dog shows with a great deal of enjoyment, with fine results as the reward. On 17 September 2023 we won the Ring of Honour in Maastricht. I was enormously proud of him standing there with me.

After that, with a great deal of perseverance, we also took the Belgian Junior Championship with him in 2023, which is a real achievement for us both. It was all a first, it took a lot of time and effort, and it never stopped being nerve-racking.

His character can best be described as that of a loving, calm Shiba Inu who enjoys getting attention. He demonstrably meets the breed-typical characteristics excellently, although every now and then he does show his headstrong Shiba character.
